Itinerary
Please note: B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner (days vary so plan accordingly)
Day 1-3 , Jimbaran, Nusa Dua (D- Dinner Only)
  • Arrive at Ngurah Rai Airport for a short drive to beautiful InterContinental Bali Resort, a superb five-star hotel with 425 luxury rooms fronting 500 meters of secluded, dazzling white sand beach and landscaped tropical gardens.
  • Relax before a dinner at Villa Abian Tirta, the home of your tour host Jack, who will give a briefing of the days ahead followed by local cultural entertainment.
Day 4 , Jimbaran, Nusa Dua (B/L/D)
  • Breakfast at Hotel.
  • Morning Spa Treatment at nearby Nusa Dua area which includes Balinese massage, green tea body scrub, splash fresh yoghurt, milk flower bath, facial or cream bath; lunch at Taman Sari Heritage Spa, one of the leading spa chain in Indonesia.
  • Afternoon tour focuses on Bali’s spirituality with a journey to the “Puja Mandala” complex – the shared home to places of worship from five major religions practiced in Indonesia.
  • “Klenteng” (Chinese Temple) where the strict “Feng Shui rules” that permeate Confucian religious doctrine will be explained. The day concludes with a visit to one of Bali’s major temples Uluwatu Temple considered one of Bali’s most sacred sites, majestically perched atop a 250 foot precipice over the surf and jealously guarded by a troupe of monkeys. This temple reflects the Balinese desire to consecrate special locations with shrines of devotion.
  • As the sun sets over the Indian Ocean, the “Kecak Dance” will be performed by torchlight. From the repertoire of mystical trance dances of Bali, as many as 75 men sitting in concentric circles will sing in unaccompanied counterpoint while dancers retell a love story taken from the Ramayana epic. Eerie shadows cast by the light of the torches and the unforgettable sound of this chorus of human voices make for an evening not soon to be forgotten.
  • Evening: Seafood Dinner at De Cuisine Restaurant. Enjoy freshly barbequed seafood served at your table standing in the sands of Jimbaran Bay.
Day 5 , Jimbaran, Nusa Dua (B/L)
  • An early morning start with a “just after sunrise” visit to a local market to gain an overview of the Balinese connection to food in their daily diet. We’ll witness first hand the “give and take” of a morning market and purchase ingredients essential to the Balinese kitchen. Shop and cook in the company of Heinz Von Holzen, the author of the best selling “The Food of Bali”. Enjoy breakfast at his purpose-built teaching kitchen before learning how to prepare and cook some 20 separate dishes. Lunch will be served at the end of the class. Heinz, together with his Balinese wife, Puji, will lead a tour of the adjoining “Rumah Bali” complex – a venue they built honoring many of the Feng Shui elements required in the building of a Balinese House.
  • Free evening for you to arrange dinner on your own. Our concierge service will be on hand to suggest some of Bali’s leading local restaurants and arrange transportation.
Day 6 , Jimbaran – Ubud (B/L/D)
  • Breakfast at Hotel.
  • A full day tour of east Bali includes a stop at Kertagosa – an ancient Court House of Justice at Klungkung where punishments for a misspent life are depicted on the ceilings of the court chamber. This is followed by a visit to Pura Besakih – Bali’s mother temple considered to be the “navel” of the world and strictly laid out in a hierarchical manner reflecting Tri Hita Karana – the three-part Balinese view of the cosmos. A brief stop at Teganan will provide a glimpse of an ancient Bali Aga community that traces its roots to times before its settlement by Javanese Hindus. The broad stone avenues and strikingly different layout of this walled community (sealed off from the outside world at sunset) will contrast with our final stop and informal walk through of a village community in Blahbatuh. In this village our guide for the day and a resident of the village will explain how the positions and dimensions of each village are strictly controlled by a priest who measures off spaces based on the width of his outstretched arms. As a special treat, we’ll enjoy a visit with local children studying Balinese dance in a school run by our guide. Buffet Lunch at Mahagiri Restaurant.
  • Late afternoon check in at the Komaneka Resort Bisma on Monkey Forest Road in Ubud. This resort is known as an oasis from the bustling activity of town with unsurpassed serenity. It features garden villas with private plunge pools. Surrounded by greenery, rice paddies and flowers, each room is a hideaway from the world.
  • Evening short walk and dinner, taking full advantage of our central location in the heart of Ubud, we’ll walk to a popular Lotus restaurant to enjoy a light early dinner before visiting the Puri Saren Palace for a traditional Balinese dance performance.
Day 7 , Ubud (B/L/D)
  • Breakfast at Hotel.
  • Visit with Ketut Liyer, made famous by his key role in the Elizabeth Gilbert best-seller “Eat, Pray, Love” and now a motion picture starring Julia Roberts, we will enjoy a morning session at the private compound of Ketut Liyer, the religious mystic celebrated in the Bali section of the book. Ketut will chat with our group and show his collection of “magic” iconic drawings used to heal and medicate his patients. His religious drawings are seen by many Balinese as an “essential” accessory to be hung over a home’s entrance to warn off ill-fate and bring good fortune to the home’s owner.
  • Neka Art Museum Tour with a local art expert. Ubud is home to a number of excellent painting collections. We’ve organize a conducted tour of the outstanding collection of paintings housed at the Neka Museum, conducted by a member of the Neka family. The paintings at the museum are part of a book by American art historian Garrett Kam – “Balinese Painting a Feng Shui Perspective.” The “Feng Shui” elements of Balinese composition will be explained by our art guide.
